The Jewish Calendar & Fall Holidays
The Jewish Calendar & Spring Holidays
3rd-5th grade

Picture

The Jewish calendar is the backbone of the Jewish year. Primarily based on the lunar cycle, the Hebrew months take on a life of their own based on the seasons and holidays. In the fall, we will learn about the fall holidays of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Simchat Torah and the winter holiday of  Hanukah.  Students will also learn about the names of the Hebrew months, the date of their Hebrew birthdays, and the about the moon's connection to the Hebrew calendar.

In the spring semester, we will learn about the winter/spring holidays including: Tu B'shvat, Purim, Passover and Shavuot.

Each week in both courses, participants will be introduced to new
EdTech tools through which they will be able to engage in a hands-on, collaborative learning experience.

Back to the Book: Genesis
3rd - 5th grade

Picture

Jump into the first book of the Torah! Here, you will meet our first family: Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebecca, and their children and grandchildren. Each session will focus on a value we learn from these biblical personalities such as visiting the sick, caring for parents, caring for animals, and fighting for justice. Throughout the course, students will learn how to apply these values to their own lives. Each week students will be introduced to new EdTech tools, through which they will able to engage in a hands-on collaborative experience.

Mitzvot: Caring Through Action
5th-7th grade

Picture

What is a mitzvah? While it is true that a mitzvah includes helping others, there is more to it than that. Did you know that it is a mitzvah to return a found object? Did you know it is a mitzvah to sit in a sukkah? In this class, students will learn about mitzvot that we do every day, others that we reserve for Shabbat and holidays, and even some that relate to how we celebrate special occasions. Students will keep a running log of mitzvot that they do during the semester and, through new EdTech tools, engage in a hands-on, collaborative experience.

Jewish Values: People Who Live By Them
5th-7th grade

Picture

Too often, we think heroes are only athletes, celebrities, or military generals. In this class, we will begin to understand a deeper definition of what makes a hero and “meet” individuals who, over the past 100 years, have made major contributions to Jewish life. Each hero will be paired with a core Jewish value which we still uphold today. Some of these heroes include Theodore Herzl, Avital Sharansky, and Yoni Netanyahu. Each week, participants will be introduced to new EdTech tools through which they will be able to engage in a hands-on, collaborative learning experience.
